A handshake often carries more weight than a hundred meetings

That handshake took place at the County Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) of Bistrița-Năsăud, in Romania, and I have a feeling it will be remembered as a beginning.My sincere thanks to Colonel Bucur Simion-Cristian, Head of the County Emergency Situations Inspectorate, and to Lt.-Col. Ilie Dunca, Head of the Bistrița Fire Department, for the warmth of their welcome and the openness of our conversation.
What moved me most was the spirit behind their work. Here, rescue and medicine are not treated as separate worlds, they belong to the same effort, the same care for people in their most difficult moments. The response flows as one, from the first hand reaching a person in danger to the care that follows. Behind every procedure and every vehicle, what you really feel is a shared conviction: that no one should be left alone in an emergency.
Seeing this up close, the readiness, the professionalism, but above all the humanity, reminded me why CEMEC is open to partnerships like this one. We protect communities best when we stand together.
This visit is only a first step. I look forward to walking the road ahead alongside colleagues who share the same values: preparedness, solidarity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting lives.
