A milestone for Europe, and a proud moment for all of us.
Brussels European Parliament, : 26 September 2025
On 26 September 2025, at the European Parliament in Brussels, we witnessed something very special: the launch of the European Disaster Alliance. What began as a shared vision has now become a reality, five leading organisations, each with unique expertise, came together to sign the Charter of Collaboration:
-European Centre for Disaster Medicine – CEMEC
-European Council of Disaster Medicine – ECDM
-World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine – WADEM Europe
-Counter-Terrorism Medicine Europe – CTM-E
-International CBRNE Institute – ICI
The Alliance it’s a commitment to build joint training and education programmes, strengthen disaster health preparedness across borders, harmonize policies and standards, and most importantly, save lives through cooperation and solidarity.
Alongside the charter, we also presented the European Disaster Health Dashboard, a dynamic knowledge hub that will help professionals, policymakers, and responders track initiatives, connect with partners, and access critical resources in real time. A living tool, evolving with the contributions of its community.
We were privileged to share this moment with many outstanding colleagues and friends, whose contributions shaped the discussions and gave depth to the vision:
Don Donahue, Petra Claes, Jan-Cedric Hansen, Ricardo Gil da Costa, Sohrab Dalal, Heejun Shin, John Quinn, Frank Van Trimpont, Sevan Gerard, George Lucian Tataru, Verónica Aquilino, Yves Dubucq, Edouard Lansiaux, Gregor Egger, Alex Grant, Balazs Zahorecz, and many more who continue to inspire this journey.
Looking around that room, filled with passionate faces, diverse expertise, and unique stories, it became clear that true strength doesn’t lie in individuals, but in the collaboration that brings us together.
And this is only the first step: the European Disaster Alliance will continue to grow as an active community, a real voice for preparedness, and a bridge connecting people, sectors, and nations.
Here’s to building a safer, stronger, more connected Europe.
