A Vision That Continues to Inspire Us: At the Crossroads of Human Safety and Animal Health
Salerno, June 24, 2025
During a One Health–dedicated meeting organised by CeRVEnE, the Regional Reference Centre for the Prevention and Management of Emergencies, CEMEC had the honour of presenting an award to Prof. Adriano Mantovani, recognising a lifetime of work and a career that profoundly shaped public health and prevention, long before this integrated approach became a global reference. For CEMEC, presenting this recognition was not only an institutional act, but a deeply human gesture. In the 1990s, Prof. Mantovani’s collaboration with the European Centre for Disaster Medicine on food safety and veterinary public health in emergency settings helped shape a vision that continues to guide how we understand preparedness and resilience today.
Honouring this legacy also means carrying it forward, through training, cooperation, and a shared responsibility for the health of people, animals, and the environment.
Thank you to Dr. Raffaele Bove and everyone who contributed to making this moment meaningful.
