Building the Foundations of Emergency Response Together
Madrid, January 27-29, 2026
The Emergency Medical Teams Community of Practice for the WHO European Region gathered in Madrid for several days of dialogue and collaborative work focused on strengthening health emergency preparedness. The meeting was hosted by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) together with the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, and supported by the Government of Spain. Experts, national authorities, and international partners came together to discuss how the Global EMT Strategy 2030 and the Regional EMT Action Plan 2024–2030 can translate into concrete national capacities.
Participants explored practical pathways to strengthen clinical surge capacity, address legal and operational barriers, and support the development of sustainable National EMT Action Plans.
CEMEC was pleased to contribute to this important dialogue, participating and supporting the discussions within Group 2: “Enabling Environment for National EMTs.”
These exchanges once again highlighted how preparedness is built: through cooperation, shared experience, and collective commitment.
A sincere thank you to the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, AECID, and the Government of Spain for bringing this community together.
