CEMEC 2026 Winter School - Meet the Speakers: From emergency department to Disaster Preparedness
Republic of San Marino 23-25 October 2026
From the emergency department to disaster preparedness, effective response depends on professionals who can connect clinical practice with training, coordination and multidisciplinary thinking. This is the perspective that Dr. Steve Photiou will bring to the CEMEC 2026 Winter School, taking place in the Republic of San Marino from 23 to 25 October 2026.
Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Steve Photiou
Dr. Photiou is Chair of the Disaster Medicine Section of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) and Chair of the Disaster Medicine Committee of the Hellenic Society for Emergency Medicine (HESEM).
He is also Co-founder and Director of the Disaster Medicine Academy within the Global Network for Emergency Medicine (GNEM).
As a senior emergency physician specialising in internal and disaster medicine, his career combines clinical practice, academic teaching and international collaboration across Europe and the United States.
His work also extends into resilience, civil protection and CBRNe initiatives, with a strong emphasis on professional preparedness and multidisciplinary approaches to major emergencies.
What makes his contribution particularly relevant to the Winter School is this ability to connect clinical decision-making, disaster medicine education and preparedness in a single professional perspective.
Because in a major emergency, clinical expertise alone is not enough: it must be connected to training, systems and teamwork.
Another voice, another perspective, another piece of the multidisciplinary faculty that will meet in San Marino this October.
The CEMEC 2026 Winter School faculty continues to grow.
