IAEA, 70th General Conference - Science, Security and Global Health
AUSTRIA Vienna 14-18 September 2026
Held in Vienna, the Conference brought together governments, international organisations, scientific institutions and experts to address the opportunities and responsibilities connected with the peaceful, safe and secure use of nuclear science and technology.I was particularly honoured to meet IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and to contribute to the technical workshop on Nuclear Innovation and Research.
My intervention, “Bridging Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Global Health Security: The Role of the First WHO Collaborating Centre for CBRNe,” presented CEMEC’s perspective on the need to connect nuclear and radiological preparedness more closely with public health systems, disaster medicine and emergency response capacities.
Beyond the individual meetings and sessions, the General Conference provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, strengthen institutional relationships and explore more integrated approaches to increasingly complex risks.
Effective preparedness depends on sustained cooperation across the scientific, health, safety, security and policy communities, and on our shared ability to translate dialogue and innovation into practical capacity.
