Managing the Medical Response When an Incident Becomes a Major Incident

A major incident places emergency systems under immediate strain: multiple casualties, evolving hazards, limited resources and several organisations required to act within one coordinated structure.
The latest Major Incident Medical Management and Support, course brought healthcare professionals and emergency responders together to apply a structured approach to medical operations at the scene.
Through realistic exercises, participants worked across command and control, safety, communication, assessment, triage, treatment and casualty transport. The focus was not only on understanding the framework, but on using it effectively while information remained incomplete and priorities continued to change.
CEMEC provided the institutional framework and oversight under which the course was delivered, while also contributing to scenario development, faculty coordination and structured debriefings.
MIMMS highlights a central principle of major-incident preparedness: effective medical response depends on shared procedures, clearly defined responsibilities and the ability to coordinate decisions across professional and organisational boundaries.
