Preventing pandemics starts long before an outbreak occurs
Paris, February 6, 2026
The European Centre for Disaster Medicine is actively engaged in the PREZODE Initiative (PREventing ZOonotic Disease Emergence), a global One Health network that brings together scientists, institutions, governments, and practitioners to prevent infectious diseases of animal origin from becoming future epidemics and pandemics. The initiative focuses on prevention, early detection, and resilience by addressing risks at their source, where human, animal, and environmental health intersect.
As an official member of the initiative, CEMEC is pleased to contribute its expertise in disaster medicine, health security, preparedness, and capacity building while collaborating with a growing international community committed to a safer and healthier future.
In a world where most emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic, prevention is not only a health priority—it is a global responsibility. PREZODE reminds us that the most effective response to the next pandemic is to prevent it from happening in the first place.
We look forward to contributing to this important international effort and strengthening partnerships that advance the One Health vision worldwide.
