When Crisis Strikes, Health Leads the Way

It was a real pleasure for the European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC) to take part in an important event hosted by the Local Health Authority of Rieti, Italy, a city also home to the Italian Joint Forces Military School for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defence.
The gathering brought together professionals from diverse institutions, united by a shared goal: strengthening and sustaining health systems to withstand the pressures of crisis.
CEMEC contributed insights on how close cooperation, particularly between civil and military actors, can be decisive when the unexpected happens. Discussions ranged from risk communication and resource coordination to lessons learned from recent health emergencies, and the urgent need to rethink response structures in the post-pandemic landscape.
A heartfelt thank you to ASL Rieti for the kind invitation, and to all the dedicated experts and colleagues who work every day to turn preparedness into action. Because in any crisis, health remains the first line of defence.
