Rethinking Readiness in Crisis Settings
Indonesia Banda Aceh - July 3-6, 2025
It was a true privilege to take part in the 7th Aceh Surgery Update Meeting in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, organized by the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University (USK).This international forum brought together hundreds of surgeons, health professionals, and experts from around the world, all united by one essential question: how can we ensure continuity and quality of care when everything around us is unstable and uncertain?
CEMEC, shared insights on what he called the “New Operational Normal”, the reality faced by health responders working in conflict zones, disaster-stricken regions, infectious outbreaks, and incidents. His intervention focused on the need to rethink how we prepare, deploy, and protect surgical teams in complex emergencies, where medical, humanitarian, and security challenges converge.
The discussion highlighted that true resilience grows from collaboration, adaptability, and innovation, but above all, from people: their commitment, professionalism, and mutual trust, which make it possible to act effectively even in the most demanding conditions.
CEMEC is proud to have contributed to such an important exchange and extends heartfelt thanks to the organizers, colleagues, and participants for their inspiring dedication to advancing global health and preparedness.
