The Future of Biological Security
Brussels, Belgium, 24 November 2025
CEMEC had the privilege of contributing as a speaker to a high-level roundtable organised by Science|Business. The focus was biological threats, but the real conversation went beyond that. It explored how Europe is redefining security in a world where complexity is accelerating.
The traditional boundaries between civilian and military roles, between health systems and defence planning, between science and policy, are no longer as clear as they once were.
Preparedness today is about capacity, connection, alignment, and trust between communities that must act together when risks evolve quickly.
Europe has strong expertise across science, public health, and security. The real challenge is bringing these strengths into coherence.
Grateful to have been part of such an open and forward-looking discussion, and sincerely thankful to Maryline Fiaschi for the kind invitation and for bringing together such a valuable exchange.
Conversations like this are essential if we want resilience to be more than just a concept.
