Where crime prevention meets security, resilience, and public health.
This month, we took part in the 35th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), at the Vienna International Centre.
As the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, and one of the governing bodies of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) brings together Member States, institutions, and experts to strengthen international action against national and transnational crime and to advance fair, effective, and accountable criminal justice systems.
The intersection with our own work is clear. CBRNe threats, the security of health systems, and preparedness against deliberate harm sit precisely where crime prevention, public safety, and disaster medicine converge. With more than 100 side events and a broad programme of exhibitions, the session offered a valuable space to listen, exchange, and connect resilience and health security to the wider agenda of international cooperation and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Participating in fora of this scale is part of our commitment to building bridges across disciplines that too often operate in isolation. Security, justice, and health are not separate conversations, and the strongest preparedness comes from treating them as one.
