European Centre for Disaster Medicine Enhances Civil-Military Cooperation Oberammergau 22-26 January 2024
The European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC) made a significant contribution to the recent CBRN Defence Orientation Course held at the NATO School Oberammergau in Germany. The School serves as a key training facility on the operational level, offering over 100 different courses encompassing cooperation, dialogue, information exchange, as well as education and training for both military and civilian personnel. Annually, more than 10,000 students and conference attendees visit the school, and since its inception in 1953, it has hosted over 200,000 officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilians.The Course explored into multifaceted dimensions of CBRN defense, covering references, principles, and components essential for countering such threats. However, what distinguished this edition of the course was its specialized focus on civil-military cooperation, recognized as a crucial aspect for effective response and mitigation strategies in the face of CBRN and technological incidents.
CEMEC, renowned for its expertise in disaster management and medical response, played an important role in augmenting the course curriculum. By enhancing the comprehensiveness of the course, the European Centre for Disaster Medicine underscored the significance of collaboration between military and civilian entities in effectively addressing unconventional threats.
