Bratislava 9 May 2024
European Centers Unite in Bratislava to Combat Technological HazardsThe European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC) and the newly launched European Specialized Centre for Technological Hazards (SCenT) convened in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, to establish a collaborative framework aimed at strengthening disaster resilience. This strategic alliance focuses on enhancing crisis management and mitigation strategies for technological threats.
This partnership, inaugurated shortly after SCenT's formation at the Slovak University of Technology, signifies a robust effort to integrate academic research with practical disaster response mechanisms. Supported by the Slovak Ministry of Interior, SCenT specializes in security research and training, particularly addressing emerging technological hazards.
The collaboration is designed to promote the sharing of scientific knowledge, develop specialized training for first responders, and improve urban risk assessments. Leveraging CEMEC’s expertise and SCenT’s innovative research and educational initiatives, the partnership is set to enhance international cooperation and strengthen the region's preparedness against both natural and technological disasters.
This initiative aligns with the goals of the Council of Europe's EUR-OPA Major Hazard Agreement, with a focus on reinforcing safety and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
